Hello Lesley, I wanted to telephone today because I've just received my Poppy Pin and I wanted to say how much I love it! Thank you, Jo, September 2013
Four separate petals are handcrafted to form this 925 sterling silver brooch / lapel stick pin. Once two petals have been soldered they are then given their striped pattern. Subsequently they are joined together and made concave to give the impression of a flower in bloom. A domed disc is made and set in the centre of the flower. Finally a shaft of silver wire is attached to the commemorative flower. A beautiful and understated item of jewellery which is not only suitable for the 11th November - it can be worn all year round!
The pin shaft is made from 925 sterling silver wire. Silver, as a metal is reasonably malleable and therefore it is important to consider that it can bend easier than other metal. An example being stainless steel, for instance. It has been made from 1mm wire to provide greater strength, however should you consider wearing this through a thicker garment such as a jacket or a coat, it is advisable to create a hole first in order to thread it through.
