Tomorrow is Mothers Day (or Mothering Sunday) in the United Kingdom.  I expect everyone has organised their gifts for her already and I know some Mums are getting some of my jewellery as I've sent it to them direct!

So, what can you get a woman - who often has everything she needs?  Which is exactly what my Mum has.  The thought process I use when it comes to buying for mine is to work out what she most wants. 

Does she love flowers, chocolates, jewellery, smellies, her garden, a particular thing that she collects, what are her hobbies?  Probably the biggest gift for most Moms is spending time with their offspring/grandchildren and it actually costs the least - but I'm sure means the most in this day and age.

Much as she's fed up with my jewellery (she gets all the prototypes), my Mum is getting the ONE AND ONLY successful item from my resin setting course at Bournemouth Uni, which was a stroke of luck as it was the one item that I'd particularly made for her.

As you can see the bird is a little drunk!  But the silver case setting was made by myself and the bird is quirky enough for it to be something that she'll wear.  She's also getting some chocolates as she's most definitely a chocoholic!

However, for mine as she's a full-time carer of my Dad who needs 24/7 support, (and I'm one of her daily support carers) - the biggest present for her is time away from her caring duties.  So, for this coming Sunday, I've organised an agency carer to 'Dad Sit' for 6 hours and am taking her for a 3 course lunch.  Then, as she adores gardening (although because of Dad she can't get out and do it much), I'm taking her to a garden centre to choose herself some plants for her pots as a gift from me.  She can then sit in the back porch later and do her pots with her 'carer bell' and be able to enjoy doing some of her garden, whilst caring for Dad.   We probably won't take the 6 hours - out and about, so any extra time she has can be used actually getting out into the garden without worrying that she's needed by my father.

So, in summary when looking at what to buy for your special lady - think about what it is they really want and start from that as a building block - if you haven't already come up with lots of ideas already of course!
